LGBTQ+ Group
The LGBTQ+ Group at SpeakUpCIC was established in 1993, during a period when equality and acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community were significantly less prevalent. While acknowledging the advancements in legal equality, it is important to recognise that our community continues to face hate crimes. SpeakUpCIC has consistently provided a safe space for our members.

In response to the higher percentage of mental health challenges among LGBTQ+ individuals, the group has offered peer support through a monthly social gathering since its inception. Over the years, we have also engaged with Brighton's Mind Out organisation and actively participated in numerous LGBTQ+ Pride events.

Currently, we offer an online monthly Zoom group meeting in addition to our in-person social gatherings, both of which provide peer support.
We warmly welcome both new and returning members.

Speak Up LGBTQ+ Group:
A Safe Space to Connect and Be Heard
At Speak Up, we believe that every voice matters — especially in spaces where understanding, identity, and belonging are at the heart of the conversation. Our LGBTQ+ group is a welcoming, inclusive space for members of the community to come together, share experiences, and support one another in a relaxed and respectful environment.
Whether you're looking to talk, listen, laugh, or simply be around others who understand, this group is here for you. We celebrate every identity and expression, and we’re committed to making sure LGBTQ+ people always feel safe, seen, and supported.
You don’t have to face things alone — come as you are, and let’s speak up together.
Margate Pride 2025
This year’s Margate Pride Parade was a vibrant celebration of love, identity, and community — and we were honoured to be part of it. Walking alongside LGBTQ+ individuals, allies, and advocates, we felt the joy, resilience, and unity that make Pride so powerful.
At Speak Up, we believe mental health support should be inclusive, affirming, and rooted in compassion. LGBTQ+ people will always be welcomed, respected, and uplifted here. Whether you're seeking connection, healing, or simply a safe space to be yourself — we’re here, and we’re listening.
Thank you to everyone who made Pride unforgettable. Your courage and authenticity inspire us every day. See you next year!
